Copy of Grimaldi 1697
This is a faithful reproduction of a historic harpsichord built in 1697 by Carlo Grimaldi in Messina, now preserved in perfect condition at the Nuremberg Museum in Nuremberg, Germany. Carlo Grimaldi, of Ligurian origin but active in the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, was known for the quality of his instruments.
The harpsichord features a cypress case with a wall thickness of only 7 mm, giving the whole a unique lightness. At 250 cm in length, it stands out as one of the longest harpsichords ever made, known for its exceptional ability to produce harmonious bass sounds due to its particularly long strings.
As is typical for keyboard instruments of the Italian school, this harpsichord is housed in an externally decorated case, which not only protects the instrument but also enhances its visual appearance, making it a true showpiece as well as a fine musical instrument.
